What Clover Go costs, what its app can and cannot do for a food truck or pop-up, its card rates and terms, from Clover's own US pages.

Clover Go is a $199 card reader that pairs with your own phone or tablet over Bluetooth. It suits a food truck, market stall or pop-up that needs to take cards with little gear. Pick the Essentials plan ($29.95 a month) if you want a menu of items on the screen, since the Starter plan does not let you create items.

This page covers the Go reader and its two plans in detail. For a handheld with its own printer and LTE, see our [Clover Flex guide](https://maple.inc/blog/clover-flex). For Clover's full restaurant bundles, see our [Clover pricing guide](https://maple.inc/blog/clover-pos-pricing), and to compare Clover with other truck setups, see [how to choose a POS for a food truck](https://maple.inc/blog/best-pos-for-food-trucks). Prices below are for the United States and, in Clover's words, "only available on Clover.com."

## What does Clover Go cost?

Clover's [Go pricing page](https://www.clover.com/pricing/go) prints two plans. Both include the reader.

    Line Starter Essentials
  Price on Clover.com Go Starter: $199 Go Essentials: $199 + $29.95/mo
Card tapped, swiped or inserted Starter in person: 2.6% + 10¢ Essentials in person: 2.5% + 10¢
Card details typed in Starter typed in: 3.5% + 10¢ Essentials typed in: 3.5% + 10¢
Create items and categories, track stock, itemized orders Not included Included
Detailed sales and tax reports, real-time sales tracking Not included (basic sales reports only) Included
Customer list, promotions, loyalty, gift cards Not included Included
Rapid Deposit (funds within minutes of a card sale) Rapid Deposit on Starter: 1.75% fee Rapid Deposit on Essentials: 1.75% fee

Both plans take cards, cash, checks and phone wallets, add tips, and include Tap to Pay on iPhone in the Clover Go app. The [Clover Go page](https://www.clover.com/go) says all cards, including American Express and rewards cards, carry the same rates.

## What can the Clover Go app do for a restaurant?

These features come from the Go page and the Go pricing grid.

- **Open orders.** You can open, edit and delete items, or take payment later, without closing the transaction and starting again. That helps when a guest adds a drink after ordering.
- **Tips, refunds and exchanges.** The app offers one-touch tipping and handles full or partial refunds, returns and exchanges.
- **Charges and taxes.** You set discount, tip and tax rates on the phone, and service or delivery charges can apply on their own.
- **One sales record.** The app shows open, pending and completed transactions, including those taken on another Clover device, and everything syncs to the Clover Dashboard.
- **Phones and tablets.** One app runs on iPhone and Android phones and tablets. The Go page lists iOS 15 or later and Android 9.0 or later, and the app will not run on a jailbroken or rooted device.
- **Taking cards offline.** The Go FAQ says that where service is poor, you can take payments offline and they are authorized once you reconnect.
- **Tap to Pay without the reader.** Clover's [Clover Go app listing](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/clover-go-dashboard-pos/id969311778) says Tap to Pay on iPhone takes contactless payments with no extra hardware. Chip cards still need the reader.

## What can it not do?

Clover's [food truck page](https://www.clover.com/pos-solutions/food-truck) answers the key question in its FAQ: if you want online ordering so guests can order ahead, or you need to connect platforms like DoorDash, you need the Restaurant Growth plan. The Go reader is sold only with Starter or Essentials. Restaurant Growth comes with Clover's counter devices, such as the Mini bundle on that page at $135 a month for 36 months.

A few other gaps follow from Clover's own pages:

- **No printed receipts.** The reader stores receipts digitally and sends them by email or text. It has no printer.
- **No menu on Starter.** Creating items and itemized orders is marked "Not included" on Starter, so a sale carries an amount without a list of items.
- **Table tools.** The Station Solo page lists "Map tables, open tabs, and split bills" under Restaurant Growth. The Go plan grid does not list them, so a sit-down dining room is better served by a restaurant bundle.
- **Kitchen tickets.** The Go pages do not mention kitchen printers or kitchen screens. Ask Clover before you plan a truck around one.

## How do the reader and battery hold up on a truck?

The reader connects to your phone by Bluetooth and charges by micro USB. Clover estimates 160 dips, 160 swipes or 130 contactless payments per charge. It takes chip, swipe and tap, including Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay. Clover sells a Go Dock that holds the reader on a counter, charges it by USB while docked, and takes a security lock. Its accessories page prints no price for it.

The internet comes from your phone. The Go FAQ says you can use any carrier and either Wi-Fi or cellular. On a truck, your phone's battery and data plan matter as much as the reader's.

## Is Starter or Essentials cheaper for your truck?

Essentials costs $29.95 a month more and saves 0.1 percentage point on each in-person card. The fixed 10¢ is the same on both. So Essentials pays for itself on fees alone once in-person card sales pass $29,950 a month ($29.95 divided by 0.001). Below that, you pay extra for the menu and reports.

The two trucks below are made up. Both average $12.50 a payment, with every card tapped or dipped.

Made-up truck Starter per month Essentials per month
  Weekend pop-up: $8,000 across 640 payments Pop-up on Starter: $208 + $64 = $272.00 Pop-up on Essentials: $200 + $64 + $29.95 = $293.95
  Daily truck: $35,000 across 2,800 payments Daily truck on Starter: $910 + $280 = $1,190.00 Daily truck on Essentials: $875 + $280 + $29.95 = $1,184.95

At these sales, Essentials costs the pop-up $21.95 a month more and saves the daily truck $5.05. At either size, the choice turns on whether you need the menu tools. In the first year, Essentials costs $558.40 ($199 plus 12 payments of $29.95) before card fees, against $199 for Starter. The footer of Clover's Go page describes a 90-day trial with no Essentials subscription fee for qualified merchants of selected business types, running through December 31, 2026; ask whether your business qualifies.

## What terms come with Clover Go?

1. **You buy the reader.** The Go plans print a one-time $199. Clover's [pricing FAQ](https://www.clover.com/pricing) says hardware bought without a subscription has a one-year limited warranty for manufacturer defects, and it sells Clover Care as extra cover.
2. **The Essentials term.** The Go page prints $29.95 a month with no term beside it. Ask how to cancel it and whether you can move between plans.
3. **Who sells it.** The FAQ says banks such as Citi, PNC and Wells Fargo sell Clover, and contract terms and termination fees vary by seller. Devices bought or leased from other sellers "cannot be used with other payment processors."
4. **The current credit.** Clover's $450 statement credit for new online buyers applies to purchases that include a Flex, Flex Pocket, Mini, Station Solo or Station Duo. A Go on its own does not qualify.

## What should you test before your first event?

1. Pair the reader with the phone you will use at the window, and take a tapped card, a dipped card and a phone wallet.
2. On Essentials, load your ten best sellers and ring a full order with a discount and a tip.
3. Turn off Wi-Fi and data, take a card, reconnect, and find the payment in the app and the Dashboard.
4. Run a practice service and count the payments before the reader needs a charge. Note your phone's battery too.
5. Send a text receipt and an email receipt, and check both arrive.
6. Refund part of an order and check the amount on your deposit.
7. Ask who your contract is with, and get the card rates and any exit fee in writing.

If you later open a counter with a phone line, Maple Pro lists Clover among the POS systems it writes phone orders into; the [Clover integration page](https://maple.inc/integrations/clover) has the details.
