On Clover.com, a restaurant system costs a monthly subscription for 36 months, or an upfront hardware price plus a monthly fee. Card processing comes on top. Clover's restaurant plans print 2.3% + 10¢ for a card tapped, swiped or inserted, and 3.5% + 10¢ for card details typed in. Your bundle and where you buy change the total. Many restaurants do not see these prices, because they get Clover through their bank or a reseller. Those sellers set their own rates and contract terms. Use the Clover.com numbers below as a baseline, then compare any quote against them line by line. ## What do Clover's restaurant bundles cost? Clover sorts restaurants into two pricing pages: [full-service restaurant systems](https://www.clover.com/pricing/restaurant) and [quick-service restaurant systems](https://www.clover.com/pricing/quick-service-restaurant). Each has a Starter, Standard and Advanced bundle, and all six list the Restaurant Growth software plan. The price rises with the devices in the box. Both pages show US prices and say they are only available on Clover.com. Payroll integrations are an optional add-on on every bundle, and the full-service pages list a kitchen printer as an accessory. ## Is the subscription or the purchase cheaper? Clover's [pricing FAQ](https://www.clover.com/pricing) says a subscription needs no money down and includes a warranty, but processing fees are "priced separately." Subscriptions are "non-cancelable and ineligible for refunds," though you can pay one off or upgrade. At the end of the term you buy or return the equipment. If you do neither, the subscription continues at the same monthly charge, and Clover asks for 30 days' notice before the term ends. A subscription comes with Clover's Equipment Protection Program, which covers accidental damage, theft and loss. That program is not offered in New York or Oregon, where an extended warranty applies instead. Hardware bought outright gets a one-year limited warranty for manufacturer defects, and Clover sells Clover Care as extra cover. ## What are Clover's processing fees? The FAQ says Clover merchants pay "a monthly software fee plus processing rates per transaction." Rates come in pairs: an in-person rate when the card is at your reader, and a higher "typed-in" rate when the card is not present, "like an online sale or phone order." The six restaurant bundles print the same rates. That describes the ordering page; card payments taken online still count as card-not-present sales under the FAQ's definition. Clover Capital, an advance repaid through card sales, is a separate product with its own terms. ## What would a month cost? A worked example The numbers below are hypothetical. Use them to see how the math works, then swap in your own sales. The example assumes a full-service Starter subscription, $40,000 a month in card sales, 85% of it in person at a $40 average payment, and 15% typed in or taken online at a $30 average payment. It leaves out cash sales, tax, apps with their own fees, chargebacks and Rapid Deposit. Shifting more sales to typed-in or online cards raises that figure, so check your own card mix before you compare quotes. Over 36 months, the Starter subscription in this example adds up to $6,444. Buying the same bundle outright adds up to $5,037.20 ($1,799 plus 36 payments of $89.95), before tax or shipping. The subscription costs more and carries the fuller warranty described above. Ask whether the monthly fee on the purchase side continues after month 36; the pricing page does not say. ## What if you buy Clover through a bank or reseller? Clover's FAQ says "Clover is sold by leading financial institutions such as Citi, PNC, and Wells Fargo," and it names Restaurant Depot and Sam's Club as retailers. On termination fees, it says "Contract terms and any termination fees can vary based on your service provider," whether you buy from Clover Direct or a partner. It also warns that devices bought or leased elsewhere "cannot be used with other payment processors." [Fiserv's small-business page](https://www.fiserv.com/en/who-we-serve/small-business.html) sells Clover as its system for small businesses, and Clover's offer terms name First Data Merchant Services LLC as the company that decides promotion eligibility. The seller who signs you up can set different rates, terms and exit fees, so treat the Clover.com table as a reference point. ## What should you ask before you sign? 1. Who is my contract with, and who processes my cards: Clover Direct, my bank or a reseller? 2. What are my in-person, typed-in and online card rates, in writing, for Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express? 3. Which software plan is included, what is the monthly software fee, and does it change after an introductory period? 4. Is the hardware a subscription, a lease or a purchase? What happens at the end of the term, and how much notice do I owe? 5. What is the termination fee if I close or switch in year one or two? 6. If I use a promotion, what does it require? Clover's [$450 statement credit](https://www.clover.com/pricing) for new merchants who buy Station, Mini or Flex online ends December 31, 2026. It requires a 3-year contract, $10,000 or more in card transactions within the first four billing cycles, and credit approval by January 31, 2027. 7. Do any apps I need, such as payroll, delivery or phone ordering, carry their own fees? 8. Can I keep my devices if I leave this seller, or are they tied to this processor?
