Tock, now sold through Resy, prints flat plans with a fee on prepayments. OpenTable bills covers from its network. Plans, fees, data terms and a worked month.

Pick Tock if you sell prepaid tastings, ticketed dinners or winery visits and want a flat monthly fee with a percentage on prepayments and no cover fees on the printed plans. Pick OpenTable if its diner app sends you many guests and you accept a fee on each one it seats, or you want a phone tool that books into it.

Tock now belongs to American Express and sits inside the Resy network. American Express [completed its purchase of Tock in October 2024](https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/newsroom/articles/company-statements/american-express-completes-acquisition-of-tock.html) and runs it as a division of American Express Global Dining; Tock's head reports to Resy's CEO. Tock's own [merchant terms page](https://www.exploretock.com/merchant-terms) now says "Tock is now part of the Resy network," and [Resy's pricing page](https://resy.com/join/plans-pricing/) sells Tock as two plans "powered by Tock." OpenTable is part of Booking Holdings. For Resy's own Platform plans, see [Resy vs OpenTable](https://maple.inc/blog/resy-vs-opentable).

OpenTable's [plans help](https://support.opentable.com/s/article/Manage-Add-Ons-directly-on-OpenTable-for-Restaurants?language=en_US) describes Basic, Core and Pro and sends you to its plans page for prices.

OpenTable says bookings by phone and walk-ins are free on every plan, and that it bills only seated diners, with no cover fee for a no-show or a cancellation.

## How do prepaid tickets and deposits work on each?

**Tock:** Resy's plan table ticks deposits and events on both Tock plans. Prepayment costs 3% on Essential and 2% on Premium. Only Premium lists chargeback protection: Tock covers contested chargebacks up to $25,000 a year in total per business, and the cover does not include card holds.

**OpenTable:** its [Experiences page](https://www.opentable.com/restaurant-solutions/products/features/experiences/) says all three plans include Experiences, but ticketed Experiences are for Core and Pro only. You choose prepaid or pay-at-the-restaurant. Payments run through [CardConnect, FreedomPay or Stripe](https://support.opentable.com/s/article/Setup-OpenTable-to-process-reservation-payments?language=en_US). Its [Experiences help](https://support.opentable.com/s/article/Experiences?language=en_US) tells guests prepaid Experiences are non-refundable, though the restaurant can refund through Stripe, and says guests can book up to 20 tickets.

Two details change your cash and costs:

- **When the money arrives.** When Tock collects a payment as your agent, its merchant terms say it pays you no later than 7 business days after you deliver the dinner, unless your order form sets a shorter period. OpenTable's help says Stripe pays US restaurants 48 to 72 hours after the transaction. A ticket sold in March for an April dinner reaches you in April on Tock and in March on OpenTable with Stripe.
- **Refunds.** OpenTable's [Stripe help](https://support.opentable.com/s/article/Manage-your-Stripe-integration?language=en_US) says the processing fee on the first charge is not returned when you refund. Tock's terms make you responsible for chargebacks above any cover, refunds and the fees on them.

OpenTable also sells payment links for Core and Pro restaurants. Its [payment links help](https://support.opentable.com/s/article/sendpaymentlinks?language=en_US) lists a 2% OpenTable service fee for US Stripe users, which you can pass to the payer. For deposit policy, see our guide to [cutting no-shows](https://maple.inc/blog/restaurant-no-shows).

## What does a worked month look like?

**Made-up inputs:** a 50-seat tasting room with 1,800 seated reservation covers in a month: 500 from the booking company's diner app or site, 1,000 from your own website and 300 by phone. It also sells $15,000 of prepaid tickets. Card processing is left out, because both sides pay a processor and neither rate is printed on the pages used here. The Tock columns assume your order form sets no cover fee; Tock's terms let an order form add one, so if yours does, add 1,800 covers times that fee to both Tock totals.

Cost line, one month Tock Essential Tock Premium OpenTable Core or Pro
Plan fee $289 a month $459 a month Your quote
  Prepayment fee on $15,000 3% = $450 2% = $300 None printed in the Experiences help
  500 diner-network covers None None 500 × your per-cover rate
1,000 website and 300 phone covers None None None on Core or Pro
Total before processing $739 in total $759 in total Plan fee + 500 × rate

At this volume, Essential costs $20 a month less than Premium. The two meet at $17,000 of prepayments, because 1% of $17,000 is the $170 gap between the plan fees. Above that, Premium costs less.

For OpenTable Core or Pro to cost less than Tock Essential here, its plan fee plus 500 covers at your quoted rate must come to under $739, plus any Tock cover fees your order form sets. On Basic, the 1,000 website covers would also be billed: 1,000 × $0.25 = $250, or the $49 flat fee, which is the cheaper choice above 196 website covers a month. Basic also leaves out ticketed Experiences.

Count the guests as well as the fees. If OpenTable's app sends you 500 diners a month who would not find you otherwise, count what they spend before you compare fees. Resy's [August 2026 announcement](https://blog.resy.com/newsroom/resy-welcomes-tock-restaurants-wineries-experiences/) put Tock venues in the Resy app, with more than 25,000 venues in all. OpenTable's [August 2026 release](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/opentable-launches-its-largest-suite-of-new-and-updated-product-features-for-restaurants-302860569.html) says it helps more than 70,000 restaurants fill 2 billion seats a year. These are each company's own figures.

## How do waitlists, support and POS links compare?

    Feature Tock (Essential, Premium) OpenTable
Waitlist Walk-in waitlists on both plans Online waitlist on Core and Pro, per its waitlist help
Support Chat and email on both; on-demand phone support on Premium 24/7 phone, chat and email support on every plan, per its Tock page
POS links Ticked on both plans in Resy's table, though Premium's summary lists POS integrations as an extra; ask which POS your plan covers More than 40 POS systems, per its comparison page

Resy's [integrations page](https://resy.com/join/integrations/) says POS links send prepayment and deposit details to the POS. For waitlist tools across more systems, see our [waitlist app guide](https://maple.inc/blog/restaurant-waitlist-app).

## Who owns the guest data?

Both say you own it, and both keep rights to data about diners who book through their apps.

- **Tock:** its merchant terms, last updated July 15, 2026, say you are "the sole and exclusive owner" of Merchant Data. That covers guest details you upload or collect, and data Tock gives you when a guest books through Tock. Tock owns "Tock Data," meaning information about Tock's own users where Tock decides how it is used.
- **OpenTable:** its Tock comparison page answers "Yes. You own your guest data." Its [restaurant privacy policy](https://www.opentable.com/c/legal/restaurant-and-business-privacy-policy/) says OpenTable acts as controller of online reservation data from diners who book through its platform. Its [guestbook export](https://support.opentable.com/s/article/Export-your-Guestbook?language=en_US) gives you a CSV.

Tock's terms also renew your plan on their own unless either side gives written notice at least 90 days before the term ends, and list fee types an order form can set, including a per-cover fee. Read your order form before you sign, and ask OpenTable for its restaurant agreement so you can check its renewal and notice terms.

## What if guests book by phone?

OpenTable says it has more than 20 voice AI partners that book tables by phone. [Maple Pro supports OpenTable reservations](https://maple.inc/integrations/opentable) over the phone, at $350/month on monthly billing or $220/month on annual billing, per [Maple pricing](https://maple.inc/pricing). Maple's [integrations page](https://maple.inc/integrations) does not list Tock or Resy. If you choose Tock and want AI on the phone, ask each phone vendor to show you a test booking in Tock.

If you are leaving OpenTable, our [OpenTable alternatives guide](https://maple.inc/blog/opentable-alternatives) has an invoice worksheet and a switching order.

*Published by Maple, which sells AI phone answering that books reservations on OpenTable and does not list a Tock integration. This AI-assisted comparison uses Resy's pricing page, Tock's merchant terms, OpenTable's product, help and legal pages, and American Express, Resy and OpenTable announcements. The worked month uses made-up inputs. It does not report a test of either system or quote any OpenTable plan price.*
