What TouchBistro's iPad POS does for a restaurant, what it prints on price, what works offline, the terms you sign, and what to test in a demo.

Shortlist TouchBistro if you run a table-service restaurant and want an iPad POS with a floor plan you can edit, tableside ordering, bill splitting and 24/7 support. Before you sign, know two things: kitchen screens, online ordering and reservations are add-ons priced by quote, and the agreement renews for the same length as your first term unless you give 30 days' notice.

Below: what TouchBistro's own US pages say the system does, what each add-on covers, what its help center says stops working offline, the terms in its Merchant Terms of Use, and a test list for your demo.

## What does TouchBistro do well?

TouchBistro runs on the iPad, according to its [hardware page](https://www.touchbistro.com/hardware-requirements/). Its [floor plan and table management page](https://www.touchbistro.com/features/floor-plan-table-management/) says you can add and remove tables, walls, sections and dining rooms, and the changes sync to the floor plan in the venue. Staff see active tables and total spend in the POS, and can move a party to another table without losing the bill. The [POS page](https://www.touchbistro.com/pos/) adds tracking of time seated and spend per table.

The [tableside ordering page](https://www.touchbistro.com/features/tableside-order-management/) says servers take orders on handheld devices, join and split seats, bills and items, and get pop-up prompts to suggest add-ons. [TouchBistro One](https://www.touchbistro.com/touchbistro-one/) puts order entry, card payments and receipt printing on one device. TouchBistro says it suits full service, fast casual and family style venues, breweries and wineries, and offers it in Canada (excluding Quebec) and the continental United States.

On menus, the POS page says you can build menus for times of day, mark a menu as dine-in only or online only, add modifiers, and edit from the POS or from TouchBistro Cloud. The [reporting page](https://www.touchbistro.com/features/reporting-analytics/) lists more than 50 reports that update in real time, remote access, daily sales reports sent by email, and export to accounting software.

The [pricing page](https://www.touchbistro.com/pricing/) FAQ says support by phone and email runs 24/7, holidays included, at no extra cost, and app updates carry no charge. The POS page says a dedicated onboarding manager guides setup, including training, installation and menu setup.

## What do the kitchen screens, online ordering and reservations add?

The [Kitchen Display System page](https://www.touchbistro.com/kitchen-display-system/) says the KDS is powered by Fresh and shows orders from the POS and online ordering on one screen or on screens per order type. It routes items to stations such as the grill or fryer, lets cooks strike through items and modifiers, recalls past tickets, syncs several screens, and reports bump times. It needs MicroTouch touchscreens (15.6 or 21.5 inch) bought through TouchBistro, with installation fees. TouchBistro recommends a wired connection to the router.

The [online ordering page](https://www.touchbistro.com/online-ordering/) says guests order from a button on your website, a direct link or TouchBistro Dine, and can schedule orders ahead. Orders arrive as a notification on the POS. You can deliver with your own drivers or through DoorDash Drive for a flat fee per order. The FAQ says it works only with the TouchBistro POS, is English only, and does not connect directly to Uber Eats. Card fees still apply to online orders.

The [reservations page](https://www.touchbistro.com/reservations/) covers bookings, a waitlist and table status in one system tied to the POS. Guests get SMS and email reminders, and you can charge an optional card fee for missed bookings. Staff can add notes for allergies or birthdays, block dates, and move existing bookings over from another platform during onboarding.

## What keeps working when the internet drops?

The POS page says the iPads keep talking to each other over a hardwired local connection when the internet is down. TouchBistro's help article on [what you can do if your internet goes down](https://help.touchbistro.com/s/article/What-can-you-do-with-TouchBistro-POS-if-your-Internet-goes-down?language=en_US) lists what still works:

    Task Offline?
Take and close orders, print kitchen tickets, receipts and guest checks Yes
Send orders to TouchBistro KDS or Fresh KDS Yes
  Take cash Yes
Take card payments offline Yes, with TouchBistro Payments in the US
Edit the menu on the iPad, manage staff No, unless you use the older POS-based platform
Cloud reports, cloud menu edits, online orders, floor plan edits, loyalty rewards, gift cards No; sales and labor data sync once the internet returns

Offline card payments also depend on the terminal. TouchBistro's help article on [supported payment processor integrations](https://help.touchbistro.com/s/article/supported-payment-processor-integrations?language=en_US) marks offline payment as available on the Lane/3000 and Link/2500 terminals with TouchBistro Payments, and not on the PAX A800 or on the Chase US and TSYS setups it lists. Tableside payment is marked available on the A800 and Link/2500 with TouchBistro Payments and on the Chase US Moby8500. Pick the terminal with both needs in mind.

## What does it cost, and what do you sign?

TouchBistro prints two starting prices: Point of Sale at $69/month and the Essentials Bundle at $119/month. Everything else, including card processing, is quoted. Its [payment processing page](https://www.touchbistro.com/features/payment-processing/) says the rate is set after a review of your credit history, sales volume and other factors. Ask for every fee on a written Sales Quote.

The [Merchant Terms of Use](https://www.touchbistro.com/terms-of-service/) (effective March 31, 2026) set these rules:

1. **Term:** your Sales Quote sets the Initial Term. It renews for a period of the same length unless either side gives written notice at least 30 days before the term ends.
2. **Leaving early:** you may not end the agreement before the term ends. If you default, you owe the software, hardware and other fees, including payment processing fees, left in the term, and must repay any incentive in full.
3. **Hardware on a payment plan:** if you default, TouchBistro may remotely disable iPads you are paying for under a hardware payment plan, and iPads that came with a hardware incentive if the default falls in the Initial Term.
4. **Fee changes:** TouchBistro can change fees on 30 days' written notice unless your Sales Quote says otherwise. If you object in writing before the change, you may cancel at the end of your term and keep the old fees until then.
5. **Disputes:** Ontario law applies, and claims go to individual arbitration in Toronto.

## What should you test in a TouchBistro demo?

1. Build your own floor plan, seat a party, move it to another table and split the bill by seat.
2. Unplug the internet. Ring an order, print a kitchen ticket, send it to the KDS and take a card on the terminal you plan to buy.
3. With the internet off, try to mark an item sold out and change a price, and note which of those waits for the connection.
4. Send an online order and a reservation, and check where each appears on the POS and floor plan.
5. Ask whether your current iPads are supported. The [supported iPads article](https://help.touchbistro.com/s/article/ipads?language=en_US) requires iPadOS 15 or higher and does not recommend the iPad Mini as a fixed POS.
6. Get each add-on price, your card rate, the Initial Term and the renewal notice date in writing on the Sales Quote.
