Presto Voice review and alternatives for drive-thru AI

By Maple Team · Published

What Presto Voice does, who Presto names as customers, what its figures count after the 2025 SEC order, and which drive-thru AI vendors to compare.

Presto Voice suits a quick-service brand or franchise group that wants drive-thru AI and wants to choose how much remote agent help sits behind it. If you want one vendor for the phone, the lane and a kiosk, start with SoundHound. If you run one or two stores, ask every vendor on this page, Presto included, what a one-lane trial looks like.

Two facts shape any Presto conversation. The company you would sign with today is Presto Phoenix, a private company formed when investors bought Presto Automation's assets at auction in December 2024. And in January 2025 the SEC settled charges against Presto Automation over how it described human help behind its AI. Everything below comes from Presto's own site and releases, the SEC order, and other vendors' own pages. We have not tested these products.

How does Presto compare with other drive-thru AI vendors?

None of these vendors prints a drive-thru price on its site. Maple's drive-thru is priced per unit, with no public price. For lane hardware, install claims and each vendor's own results side by side, see our AI drive-thru vendor comparison.

What does Presto Voice do?

Presto's Voice AI page describes an AI assistant that takes drive-thru orders through the store's existing drive-thru hardware and POS. Presto says it installs in a few hours, reads in your menu, and connects to the POS, the confirmation board and the drive-thru speaker. It lists these features:

  • Four staffing modes: from Pure AI with no agents to Agent-led, where remote agents take the order using Presto's voice system.
  • Menu Unification: launched in February 2025 to turn a brand's scattered menu data into one format, so the brand can manage many stores' menus at once.
  • Upsells: offers based on the current order, on the time of day or season, and on upgrades to items already ordered.
  • Greetings by daypart: a different greeting for each part of the day.
  • Languages: orders in more than one language.

Presto has added three things since the 2025 sale. It launched a phone ordering unit in April 2025, a data unit called Presto IQ in August 2025, led by the founder of Wendy's FreshAi, and ElevenLabs voices in its drive-thrus in September 2025. It shows no price and asks you to contact its team.

Who is Presto now, and who uses it?

WhenWhat Presto announced
January 2025A group led by Remus Capital bought Presto Automation's assets. The new private company, Presto Phoenix, kept the Presto Voice product and team and received $18M of new capital.
February 2025Launched Menu Unification and named Yoshinoya as a brand running live tests of it.
March 2025Galardi Group had 35 Wienerschnitzel locations live with Presto Voice and more than 50 enrolled, with plans across its network of over 350 drive-thrus.
January 2026Added $10 million led by Metropolitan Partners Group. Presto said hundreds of drive-thrus were live and that it works with a dozen enterprise brands.
April 2026Co-founder Krishna Gupta returned as CEO. Dairy Queen said it had tested Presto in corporate stores and was expanding the pilot to select franchisees.
September 2026Joined the Toast Partner Ecosystem, so orders from Presto Voice flow into the kitchen through Toast POS. Presto said this opens its product to mid-market and newer multi-location brands on Toast.

Presto's Voice AI page also quotes Wienerschnitzel's parent and Taco John's. The brands it names are chains. We found no example of a single independent store on its site.

What do Presto's published figures count?

These are Presto's own figures, shown without definitions. The home page lists up to 95% non-intervention rates, up to 88% upsell offer rates and up to a 6% monthly increase in revenue. The Voice AI page adds up to 85% automation rates.

The word "non-intervention" has a public history. In January 2025 the SEC order against Presto Automation found that its reported non-intervention rates counted orders finished without restaurant staff stepping in, while contracted agents off site, including in the Philippines and India, entered many of those orders. It found that a version piloted from June 2023 needed an agent to enter the order about 70% of the time through at least December 2023. Presto Automation settled without admitting or denying the findings. Our restaurant AI failures review covers the case with other public setbacks.

The order concerns statements Presto Automation made to investors between 2021 and 2023. Presto's current page lists the modes that use agents. Ask one plain question: for the stores behind the 95% figure, which mode were they running, and does the figure count orders a remote agent touched?

When does an alternative make more sense?

  1. You want phone, lane and kiosk in one place. SoundHound's restaurant page says the same agents handle all three. Presto's phone unit is newer, and its releases describe drive-thru as the core.
  2. You want the vendor to supply the human backstop. Hi Auto describes a trained human supervisor who steps in when its AI is not confident. Read our Hi Auto review.
  3. Phone orders are your bigger volume. Start with our ConverseNow review, which compares phone-ordering vendors and their printed prices.
  4. You run Toast. Presto now integrates with Toast, and Toast named Incept AI as a voice partner in its April 2026 Toast Drive-Thru launch. Ask Toast which partner fits your store count.
  5. You want to leave the lane wiring alone. Maple's unit stands beside the speaker post with its own microphone and speaker.

What should you ask Presto and each alternative?

  1. Which staffing mode would my stores run, and who are the remote agents?
  2. For the figures you quote, what counts as an order with no intervention? Do orders your agents helped with count?
  3. Which POS versions do you write into, and can I see a ticket from a store on my POS?
  4. What goes in my lane, who installs it, and does my headset system stay as it is?
  5. How do price changes, sold-out items and limited-time offers reach the AI?
  6. How is it priced: per lane, per store or per order? What are the install fees, contract length and exit terms?
  7. Which stores like mine, with my menu and POS, can I call?

Then give each vendor the same test orders at a real lane. The one-lane pilot checklist sets out the baseline to record and the pass rules to agree first. To see which chains use which vendor, read the chain tracker.

Maple's drive-thru unit is in early access with a small number of restaurants. It stands beside the existing speaker post, shows the guest a live cart on its screen, and writes the order into the POS. One press returns the lane to the crew. It is priced per unit, with no public price. For phone orders, Maple Pro's price is printed on the pricing page.
