SkyTab Kiosk (now Shift4 Dine Kiosk): setup, hardware and limits

By Maple Team · Published

How the SkyTab self-order kiosk works under its new Shift4 Dine name: the hardware, setup steps, order and payment flow, limits, and what to ask for a quote.

SkyTab Kiosk is the self-order kiosk Shift4 sells for its restaurant POS, which Shift4 renamed Shift4 Dine on May 12, 2026. It is a 14-inch Android terminal with a built-in card reader. You add it from the Marketplace in Shift4 Dine Customer Hub, and paid orders drop into your POS. Shift4's help center prints no price, so ask for a quote.

Shift4 announced the rename in May 2026 and said products, integrations and support would stay the same. Its help articles now file the product as Kiosk, under Shift4 Dine. This guide covers the kiosk from Shift4's own Kiosk help section: hardware, setup, how orders and payments reach staff, the limits Shift4 lists, and a checklist for your quote.

Where can you use it?

Shift4 lists the kiosk for Shift4 Dine restaurants in the United States, Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom. You need an existing menu in Menu Manager and a Shift4 Dine Workstation running at the location. If you are still choosing a POS, our POS buyer's guide covers Shift4 Dine alongside Toast, Square and Clover.

What hardware do you get?

Shift4's kiosk specifications list the following.

PartWhat Shift4 lists
DeviceAndroid
Screen14-inch 1920 x 1080 HD touchscreen
Size and weight13.3 H x 10.6 W x 6.5 D inches; 5.69 lbs
PaymentsChip, swipe and NFC (tap) built in
ConnectionEthernet (RJ45) on the spec sheet; the install guide also covers Wi-Fi
Memory4GB RAM, 64GB flash

The installation guide describes two setups. The wired one uses a TP-Link router connected to your modem, a USB hub under the kiosk base and two Ethernet cables. The Wi-Fi one powers an L1400 hub and connects it to the pedestal stand by USB-C. Shift4 also publishes a guide for mounting an A35 PIN pad on a stand next to the kiosk; the PIN pad must be on the same network as the kiosk.

How do you set it up?

These steps follow Shift4's Marketplace install guide, admin settings guide and order flows guide.

  1. Set up your Online Menu in Menu Manager. The kiosk shows the items you add there, on the schedules you set.
  2. In Shift4 Dine Customer Hub, go to Marketplace > Kiosk > View details > Install. If it asks you to Request POS Upgrade, you need a software update first.
  3. Open Marketplace > Kiosk > Manage, go to General Settings and switch the kiosk to Active.
  4. Add your logo and brand color, set the screensaver, and choose which languages guests can pick.
  5. Set order options: idle timeout, how long the finish screen shows (5 seconds by default), special requests, and whether required modifier groups come first (on by default, so guests do not miss a required choice).
  6. Create order flows such as For Here and To Go. Map each to a Shift4 Dine order type, add questions such as a phone number, and pick one question as the ticket name so staff can find the order.
  7. Set tips: up to three percentages, a default, and whether guests can skip or enter their own amount.
  8. Place test orders and check them on the POS before you open the kiosk to guests.

Two settings change what guests see. Ignore Menu Schedules shows every item at all hours. Phone Login asks for a phone number at the start, then remembers the guest's name, email and past items for an Order Again button on return visits.

How do orders and payments reach staff?

Shift4's tip guide says the card is authorized when the guest orders, and the final charge is captured when the order reaches the Workstation. Tips go to the staff member who marks the ticket Complete.

Paid kiosk orders show in the Completed tab on the POS, with items, customer details and special instructions, per the guide to managing kiosk orders. If the guest gave a phone number, staff can send a text from the POS, or set up a text when the kitchen screen marks the order done. Only staff with the right permissions can void a kiosk order.

The order number the guest sees is the Workstation ticket number. It appears on the finish screen and on printed, email or text receipts, so staff and guests match orders by the same number.

What limits does Shift4 list?

  • The Kiosk FAQs say the kiosk does not support loyalty yet; Shift4 says it is planned for a future release.
  • The kiosk is not a Workstation, so you cannot assign it to a revenue center or count it toward one.
  • Order flows can map only to order types that have Require Ticket Name and Require Customer turned off in Shift4 Dine.
  • The kiosk turns itself on and off with your menu schedule. To stop orders during open hours, switch it off in the admin settings and add a message for guests.
  • You can cap the number of items per order in each order flow.

What does it cost?

Shift4's kiosk help articles do not give a price. Ask your Shift4 rep or reseller to put each line below in writing.

What should you check before launch?

  1. Your Online Menu in Menu Manager has guest-friendly names, photos and every modifier set a guest needs.
  2. Each kiosk order flow maps to an order type with Require Ticket Name and Require Customer off.
  3. The kiosk and any PIN pad are on the same network, and you have tested both the card reader and tap payments.
  4. Staff know to watch the Online Orders tab during service and to check the Completed tab at close, as Shift4's daily checklist suggests.
  5. The ticket name question gives staff something they can call out at pickup.
  6. If you run a loyalty program, staff can tell guests that kiosk orders do not support it yet.
  7. A manager knows how to switch the kiosk off and post a message during a rush or outage.

What other kiosk options work with Shift4 Dine?

Pye, a kiosk maker, has announced an integration with the SkyTab Marketplace. For how POS kiosks compare with separate kiosk software, see our self-order kiosk buyer's guide.

Maple, which publishes this guide, lists SkyTab (now Shift4 Dine) among the POS systems its voice ordering kiosk writes orders into. Guests speak their order and watch the cart build on screen. The kiosk is in early access with a small number of restaurants, is priced per unit and has no public price. Maple Pro also takes phone orders into SkyTab; see Maple's SkyTab page.
