SkyTab POS pricing and fees for restaurants

By Maple Team · Published

Every SkyTab (now Shift4 Dine) fee Shift4 prints, the statement fees it names without a price, and a worked month with labeled assumptions.

SkyTab, now called Shift4 Dine, has no plan price or card rate in Shift4's help center, so the software fee and your card rate come from a quote. Its help center prints the add-on fees: $29.99 per handheld a month, $19.99 a month for a handheld charging station, $35 a month for scheduling, and $25 a month for gift cards.

This page lists every SkyTab fee Shift4 prints, the statement fees it names without a price, and a month worked through with labeled assumptions. For what the handhelds, kiosk and kitchen screens do, see our SkyTab review. Shift4 renamed SkyTab POS to Shift4 Dine on May 12, 2026, according to its rename notice, so older quotes and statements may still say SkyTab.

Which fees does the statement name without a price?

Shift4's billing matrix and statement glossary lists the lines that can appear on a monthly statement for US merchants. It gives no public amount for the lines below, so ask for each one on your quote, or ask Shift4 to write "none" beside it.

  • Monthly minimum fee: set in your Merchant Processing Agreement. If your processing fees fall short of it, you pay the difference, or the whole fee in a month with no sales.
  • Authorization fee: charged on each card authorization, including declined, voided, pre-authorized and typed-in payments.
  • Batch header fee: charged on each batch or settlement.
  • Card not present fee: charged on each payment made without the card, as on a phone order.
  • Dealer support fee: set by the sales partner who sold you the system. Shift4 says it cannot adjust this fee.
  • Monthly administration, premium support and service, EMV device maintenance, and enhanced security fees.
  • Annual service and maintenance fee: billed on the July statement, for up to four card devices, and covers replacement of those devices.
  • Online ordering and delivery services enablement fee: billed each month.
  • Chargeback fees and retrieval requests: billed when a guest disputes a payment or a bank asks for a copy of a sale.

How does Shift4 bill card processing?

Shift4's statement breakdown names three pricing models: interchange, SimpleChange and flat rate. Card-brand fees pass through Shift4 to the card brands. Ask which model your quote uses and what Shift4 adds on top.

You also choose how card fees are collected. Daily net billing takes each day's fees out of that day's deposit: on $100 in sales with a 3% fee, you receive $97. Daily gross billing deposits the full $100 and debits the $3 separately. Monthly gross billing takes one debit at the start of the month and adds the float fee in the table above. Shift4 funds most merchants the next business day by default, according to its deposit schedules.

The Advantage Program is Shift4's option to pass card costs to guests through a supplemental fee, dual pricing or a cash discount. The statement breakdown says authorization, additional services and other fees are not reduced by it, and the enrollment guide says enrolling moves your statements from monthly to daily. Check the rules where you operate before you turn it on.

What would a month on SkyTab cost? A worked example

Every input below is an assumption. A table-service restaurant runs three handhelds on one charging station, uses Workforce Management and gift cards, and keeps Customer Hub premium features after the free 60 days. Three card devices carry the Regulatory Assurance Fee. The restaurant takes $50,000 a month in card sales across 1,250 payments at $40 each. Shift4 prints no card rate, so the example uses a made-up flat rate of 2.6% + 10¢; replace it with your quote. The software plan line stays blank because Shift4 prints no plan price.

The printed add-ons come to $189.96 a month, or $2,279.52 a year. With the $975 Regulatory Assurance Fee, that is $3,254.52 a year before software and card fees. Card processing is 84% of the month shown, and each 0.1 point on the rate moves it by $50, or $600 a year.

How Shift4 collects card fees adds a cost of its own. On $50,000 a month, a 0.05% float fee is $25 a month, and two basis points is $10. Daily billing avoids it. If you later leave Shift4 and need your stored cards moved, budget for the token export, which Shift4 estimates at over $10,000.

What should you get in writing before you sign?

Shift4's help center prints no contract length, renewal rule or early termination fee. Its Regulatory Assurance Fee article says the terms for all merchants sit on Shift4's legal page. Ask for these on your quote:

  1. The software plan price for each location, and what it includes: workstations, kitchen screens, kiosk and online ordering.
  2. Your pricing model (interchange, SimpleChange or flat rate) and every rate, including typed-in and American Express cards.
  3. Each fee in the statement list above, with an amount or "none".
  4. The monthly minimum, if any, and the dealer support fee, if a dealer sold you the system.
  5. The initial term, how it renews, the date you must give notice, and what you owe if you close in month 12.
  6. Whether the hardware is bought, leased or part of the subscription, and who owns it at the end.
  7. Daily billing, set from day one.

To set these costs beside systems that print their prices, see our guide to choosing a restaurant POS and what a restaurant POS costs. If you take phone orders, Maple Pro lists SkyTab (now Shift4 Dine) among the POS systems it writes orders into; the SkyTab integration page and Maple's pricing show the details.
